Codex connects to Vessero from your terminal, and the Codex IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app use the same setup. Every ChatGPT plan includes Codex, Free and Go too. Signing in needs a browser on the same computer. In Connected apps, the same steps open one at a time, with the commands to copy, and the last one tells you when Codex is in.
Connect Codex
- Add Vessero to Codex. In a terminal where Codex is signed in, run
codex mcp add vessero --url https://vessero.com/mcp. - Sign in to Vessero. Run
codex mcp login vessero. - Your browser opens Vessero's page. Sign in if it asks, then press Allow.
- Check it works. Start Codex with
codexand type/mcp: vessero is listed. - Ask: "Use Vessero to show my credit balance." Approve the tool when it asks, and it answers with your balance.
Use a key instead
On a computer with no browser to sign in with, give Codex an API key. Codex reads it from your environment.
- Add Vessero to Codex. In Connected apps, under Connect another app, press Codex, then Use a key instead.
- Name the key, choose what it can do and, if you like, give it a daily cap. Press Make the key.
- The key is shown once, already in two lines. Run the first,
export VESSERO_API_KEY="vsk_…"with your key in place ofvsk_…, and put it in~/.zshrcor~/.bashrctoo, so new terminals have it. - Run the second:
codex mcp add vessero --url https://vessero.com/mcp --bearer-token-env-var VESSERO_API_KEY. - Check it works. Start Codex with
codex, and ask: "Use Vessero to show my credit balance."
If it doesn't connect
- Vessero's tools are missing. Codex connected without signing in. Run
codex mcp login vessero. - With a key, the tools are missing.
VESSERO_API_KEYisn't set in the terminal that started Codex.
