Connect Gemini CLI

Add Vessero to Gemini CLI with one command, then sign in with /mcp auth vessero and press Allow. Signing in needs a browser on the same computer; over SSH or on a server, put an API key in the command instead.

Gemini CLI connects to Vessero with one command. Signing in needs a browser on the same computer. In Connected apps, the same steps open one at a time, with the command to copy, and the last one tells you when Gemini CLI is in.

Connect Gemini CLI

  1. Add Vessero to Gemini CLI. In a terminal where Gemini CLI is signed in, run gemini mcp add --transport http --scope user vessero https://vessero.com/mcp.
  2. Sign in with /mcp auth. Start Gemini CLI with gemini, then type /mcp auth vessero.
  3. Your browser opens Vessero's page. Sign in if it asks, then press Allow.
  4. Check it works. Type /mcp: it shows vessero as CONNECTED, with its tools.
  5. Ask: "Use Vessero to show my credit balance." Confirm the tool call when it asks, and it answers with your balance.

Both flags in the command matter. Without --transport http, Gemini CLI adds the wrong kind of server; without --scope user, it has Vessero in this folder only.

Use a key instead

Over SSH, on a server, or anywhere else with no browser to sign in with, give Gemini CLI an API key.

  1. Add Vessero to Gemini CLI. In Connected apps, under Connect another app, press Gemini CLI, then Use a key instead.
  2. Name the key, choose what it can do and, if you like, give it a daily cap. Press Make the key.
  3. The key is shown once, already in the command. Copy it and run it in a terminal. It reads gemini mcp add --transport http --scope user --header "Authorization: Bearer vsk_…" vessero https://vessero.com/mcp, with your key in place of vsk_….
  4. Check it works. Start Gemini CLI with gemini, and ask: "Use Vessero to show my credit balance."

The command keeps the key in your own settings, ~/.gemini/settings.json. Never put it in a project's .gemini/settings.json.

If it doesn't connect

  • "DISCONNECTED", or no tools. It was added without --transport http, or for another folder. Run gemini mcp remove vessero, then the command again.
  • A 401 error. Type /mcp auth vessero to sign in again.
  • No browser to sign in with. Use a key instead.

Don't set trust: true for Vessero: it skips every confirmation, and Vessero's tools can spend your credits.
