B-Roll finds stock footage and sound effects for a video you're cutting. Nothing is generated: the clips and sounds come from free stock libraries, each with its licence, and you download the ones you want.
There are two ways in, as tabs at the top: Search stock and Match to audio.
Search stock
- Choose what you want under Type: Footage, from Pexels and Pixabay, or Sounds, from Freesound.
- Type a subject, such as "city at night" or "rain on a window", and press Search. Fewer, plainer words usually find more.
- Narrow it. For footage, pick a Shape: Any, 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. For either, pick a Length: any, or 10, 30 or 60 seconds or shorter.
- Press Load more at the foot of the results to keep going.
Searching is free. The search is kept in the page's address, so coming back to the page lands on it.
Point at a clip to preview it, or open it to watch it bigger and see where it's from, who made it, its length, shape, size and licence. Arrow through the others from there. Download saves the size shown, and Other sizes lists the rest; View on Pexels or View on Pixabay opens its page there. A sound plays from its row, and shows its length and licence beside a download button.
Where a clip or a sound asks to be credited, Copy credit copies the words it asks for.
Match to audio
Match to audio reads a voiceover, a song or a video for the moments that want a cutaway, such as an emphasis, a pause or a turn, and brings footage and sounds for each one.
- Add the source. Choose a file or drop one on the box: audio or video, up to 500 MB. For a video, its soundtrack is what's read. Or pick one of your recent tracks under the box.
- Paste a transcript, if you have one. The lyrics or the script make the moments sharper.
- Add some context, if you like: a genre, a mood, a topic. It steers what the footage shows.
- Pick a shape. Footage in any other shape is left out.
- Set Placements: how many moments get clips, from 1 to 12.
- Check the price and press Find B-roll.
It transcribes the audio, picks the moments, then searches the libraries for each. Each moment comes back with its time in the audio, the words spoken there, what kind of moment it is, and the footage and sounds found for it.
What a match costs
A match is priced before you press, in two parts: the transcription, by the started minute of audio, and the matching, held at the most it can cost. The foot of the form shows the total as "up to", and when the match is done it shows what was charged; anything held and not used comes back. If your file turns out longer than the page read it, you're shown the new price and asked to press Find B-roll again.
Past matches
Every match is kept and listed under the form as Past matches, so what you paid for is still there after a reload. Press one to open it again, or the bin to delete it, along with its moments and clips.
