Real people: faces, voices and consent

A real person's face or voice goes into your work only with their permission. Where Vessero asks who is in an upload, such as an actor's photos, a UGC presenter or a recording a clip speaks in, you name them and confirm their written permission, or say no real person is in it.

You can put a real person's face or voice in what you make only with their permission. In the places listed below, an upload of someone asks who it is, and nothing that uses it runs until you answer. The answer is kept with what you made.

What you confirm

For a real person, you type their full name and tick a statement. The box can be ticked only once a name is typed, and changing the name clears it, because the statement is about that person. You confirm that:

  • you are that person, or you have their written permission to make an AI likeness of them, or to clone their voice, and to use it in videos made with your account;
  • they are 18 or older;
  • you won't use their likeness or voice to deceive anyone about who is speaking;
  • you'll delete it if they withdraw their permission.

You can say no real person is in it instead. For a picture or a video the choice reads "No real person is in it: made with AI, animated, or no people". For a recording it's "An AI voice, not copied from a real person", or on Video, "No one speaks or sings in it". A picture an AI made, here or anywhere else, takes that answer.

Where you're asked

  • Cast: when you bring in a picture to make an actor's look from, or to use as their look as it is: a real person makes an AI likeness of them. Pictures you made here aren't asked about. And when you clone a voice from a recording. See Cast an AI actor once and reuse them.
  • UGC Ads: for each presenter you bring as a picture or a video, the Look like video, and a recording you upload or record as someone's voice. See Make a UGC ad from a script.
  • Video: for sounds you upload as Audio refs, an uploaded video when the job keeps the people in it, and the character's picture for motion control.
  • The Creative Board: on an uploaded picture or clip before a lip sync or motion control card uses it, and on an uploaded sound you mark as a voice before a clip speaks in it or is lip-synced to it. The card's line, such as "Who is in this clip?", opens the question, and pressing it again lets you correct your answer. Pictures and clips made on the board aren't asked about.

What changes when a real person is in it

  • The label. Your work with a real person is labelled AI likeness rather than AI actor, in Cast and in UGC Ads.
  • References. Seedance doesn't take a real person's face as a reference, so a clip of them opens on a picture of them as its first frame instead. On UGC Ads, that means picking a picture model to draw the opening picture.
  • What they can say. In a UGC ad where every presenter is a real person with permission, they can speak about what they've lived. An AI actor can't speak as a customer: see Captions and the AI label.

What's never allowed

Permission doesn't change these:

  • No real person can be shown nude or in a sexual way. With permission confirmed, they can be shown in lingerie like any adult; without it, an uploaded photo of someone real can't be shown in underwear or anything intimate.
  • A public figure can't be shown endorsing something, or saying words they never said, as if it were real.
  • No one under 18. Cast actors are adults only, and a description that asks for a child is refused.
  • No fakes meant to deceive, such as realistic new photos of a real person made to pass as genuine ones.

If permission is withdrawn

Delete what you made with them; the statement you ticked says you will.

  • An actor in Cast. On their page, press Remove, then press again. They leave your cast and your pickers, but cards already on your boards, and anything made with them, stay until you delete those too. To delete a voice you cloned for them, choose No voice in their Voice step: a voice made for them is deleted with it.
  • Uploads. In your Library, move their photos, videos and recordings to Trash under Uploads, then press Delete forever in Trash. A file that a board, an actor or a clip still uses stays with that work, so delete the work too.
  • What you made. Delete the boards, cards, ads and videos they're in, and any copies you downloaded.
