Edit & Enhance works on one picture at a time: it makes it bigger, takes out its background, grows it to a new shape, or changes it the way you say. The result takes the page, with a handle you drag to compare it with the picture you started from.

You can also upscale on Images: its Upscale tab takes one picture, ×2 or ×4, at the same price, and the bigger picture lands in My images there rather than among your edits here. Open it there, or in your Library, and References shows the picture as it went in, under Before. See Make an image.

Edit a picture

  1. Add the picture. Press the slot beside the words, then Upload a file or choose from Your pictures, which lists the pictures and clips you've made in every studio. You can also drop a file on the slot. From your Library, open a picture and press Edit & Enhance; on a Creative Board, a picture card's Edit & Enhance button makes a new card that works on it.
  2. Pick a tool from the first chip: Upscale, Remove background, Expand, Edit with words, Relight, Restyle or Erase.
  3. Set it up. Each tool's own settings sit beside it as chips; the ones that read words have a field for them.
  4. Check what it makes. The last chip shows the size it will come out at, such as "→ 2,048 × 2,048", and the price is beside Run. Hover over the price, or move to it with the Tab key, to see how it's worked out.
  5. Press Run, or ⌘ Return (Ctrl Enter on Windows) in the words.

The result appears in the big space straight away and says where it has got to. You can start another while one is running; your recent edits line up along the page, and pressing one shows it again.

The tools

  • Upscale: the picture twice or four times as big on each side, and sharper. Pick ×2 or ×4 under Factor, where each shows the size it makes and its price. A result can be up to 8,192 pixels on its long side.
  • Remove background: keeps the subject and makes the rest transparent, as a PNG. The picture needs to be at least 256 pixels on its short side.
  • Expand: grows the picture out to a new shape: 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 16:9. The picture stays exactly as it is, and the new space around it is painted to match. Say what fills it if you like.
  • Edit with words: say what to change, such as "make the jacket red" or "add falling snow".
  • Relight: new light on the same picture. Choose Golden hour, Studio softbox or Moody low-key, and add a few words about the light if you like.
  • Restyle: the same picture, drawn another way. Choose 35 mm film, Ink and watercolour or Graphic poster, and add words if you like.
  • Erase: paint over what should go. Set the brush size, and use Undo or Clear to start again. Leave the words empty to remove it, or say what to put in its place.

Edit with words, Relight and Restyle come back at about one megapixel, in your picture's shape, which is why their size chip says "about". Erase and Expand keep your picture's own pixels, up to 4,096 on the long side.

What it costs

  • Upscale is priced by the pass, whatever the size of the picture: ×2 is one pass and ×4 is two. The Factor menu shows what each costs.
  • Remove background is 1 credit.
  • Edit with words, Relight, Restyle, Erase and Expand cost the same: 2 credits.

The price beside Run is the one you pay, and you're never charged more than that. If the price has gone up since the page loaded, the bar shows the new one and asks you to press Run again.

When it's done

Under a finished picture:

  • Download saves it as a file named for what was done, such as a PNG.
  • Upscale ×2 makes the result bigger, at the price on the button. It's there on every picture result that isn't already an upscale.
  • Keep editing makes the result the picture in the slot, ready for the next tool.
  • Delete removes it, once you confirm.

A result that fails says why, and its credits come back automatically. Try again runs it again at the price on the button.

Pictures and clips

Pictures can be PNG, JPEG or WebP, and a large photo is made smaller on your device before it uploads. A clip, MP4 or MOV, can be upscaled to 1080p, at Standard or Best quality, and the other tools work on pictures only. See Extend, edit or upscale a clip you have.
