Getting paid

Say how you're paid once, in Getting paid in Settings: your country decides the ways on offer. Your share of store sales and community payments is held 30 days, then paid in the first week of each month once you're owed $50 or more. Affiliate commission is paid separately.

Your share of what you sell in the Creator Store, and of what members pay in your community, adds up in Earnings. Getting paid is where you say how it reaches you. You set it once, and every payout after that goes there.

Set it up

  1. Go to Getting paid in Settings. It's there once you have a shop, which opening one or starting a community gives you.
  2. Pick your country: where you, or your business, are based.
  3. Pick how you're paid from the ways open in your country:
    • The US, the UK, the EEA, Canada and Switzerland: Bank account, through Stripe. Stripe's own sign-up opens inside Settings and asks what your country needs, and Stripe keeps your bank details.
    • Elsewhere: a bank account through Wise, in your own currency where Wise pays it or in US dollars by SWIFT, or PayPal, with your PayPal address typed twice.
    • Nigeria: a Grey account, either the euro account (IBAN), marked Recommended, or the US dollar account (account and routing number), as the Grey app shows them. Wise and PayPal can be offered too.
    • A company abroad: if you're based outside Stripe's countries but run a company registered in one, such as a US LLC or a UK limited company, choose Bank account, through Stripe, for my company. You then sell as the company.
  4. Give your legal name, say whether you sell as an individual or a company (with a VAT number if your business has one in the EU), and tick that the account is in your name or your business's name.
  5. Press Save payout details, or Continue with Stripe.

If no way is listed, Getting paid says it can't pay sellers in your country yet. We don't pay to countries under sanctions.

Once saved, Getting paid shows a masked line for the account, and whether it's ready to be paid. Bank numbers are never kept in the clear: Stripe and Wise keep yours, and a Grey account's details are kept encrypted. You only ever see the masked line.

When money arrives

  1. On hold. Each sale or community payment is held for 30 days, for refunds and chargebacks. Earnings shows the day each one is free.
  2. Available. After the hold, it waits for the monthly payout.
  3. Paid. Payouts go out in the first week of each month, once you're owed $50 or more ($100 for US dollars by SWIFT). Less carries over to the next month.

Through Stripe, Stripe then pays it into your bank. Through Wise or PayPal, the transfer's fee comes out of what arrives, and a transfer in another currency arrives at the day's rate. When a payout goes out, we email you that it's on its way, and Earnings lists it as Sending, then Paid.

What can hold a payout

  • Changing your details. Payouts pause for 7 days, and we email your account's address. If you didn't make the change, reply to that email straight away.
  • Stripe not ready. Through Stripe, payouts wait until Stripe has what it asks for.
  • A hold from our team. Getting paid then says payouts are on hold, and we write to you. A suspended shop's payouts are held too.
  • Tax details. Where the law asks us to report what we pay you, such as the EU's DAC7 rules, we may hold payouts until you give us the details it asks for.

Refunds after you're paid

A refund or a lost chargeback on a sale you've already been paid for comes off what you're owed next, and your balance can go below zero until later sales cover it. Through Stripe, it can be taken back from your Stripe balance instead. You're responsible for the income tax on what you earn.

Affiliate commission

Commission from the affiliate program isn't paid here. It's paid monthly by PayPal or Wise, to the address in your affiliate dashboard, once $50 has cleared its 45-day hold. See The affiliate program.
