You start and change plans from Plan and billing. Moving up to a bigger plan starts it today. Moving down to a smaller one starts at your next renewal.
Start a plan
Without a plan, each plan in Plan and billing has a Subscribe button for monthly and one for yearly, with the price on each. You can also press Subscribe to a plan on Pricing. You pay in Stripe's checkout and come straight back.
When the first payment goes through, the plan's credits for the month land, the bell says the plan is active, and we email you a welcome with what you paid and a link to the invoice.
Move up to a bigger plan
- Go to Plan and billing.
- Under Plans, press Move up on the bigger plan.
- Read what is charged and what happens, tick the box asking for your credits now, and press Pay and move up.
What happens:
- The new plan's price for a month (or a year, if you pay yearly) is charged to your card now.
- Its credits for the month arrive now.
- The credits you have stay. Unused plan credits carry over, up to one month of the new plan's credits, as at any renewal. Credits you bought aren't touched, and while you're on any plan they don't expire.
- Your month starts again from today, so the new plan renews on the same date next month.
- On a monthly plan, nothing is refunded for the rest of your old plan's month, because its credits stay with you.
- On a yearly plan, the months of your old year not reached yet come off the charge. A yearly plan's credits arrive a month at a time, so those months were paid for and their credits never given. For example, moving from Plus yearly to Ultra yearly in the third month of your year takes 9 months of Plus ($180) off a year of Ultra ($816), so $636 is charged.
- If you'd set a move down for your next renewal, moving up cancels it.
- If you picked the bigger plan on Stripe's billing page before, it would start at your renewal. Move up starts it today instead.
If your bank wants to confirm the payment, or the card is declined, Stripe's page for the invoice opens so you can pay it there. Your plan changes once it is paid. Until then you stay on the plan you had, and nothing is charged.
Move down to a smaller plan
- Go to Plan and billing.
- Under Plans, press Switch to on the smaller plan. Stripe's billing page opens.
- Choose the plan and confirm.
The smaller plan starts at your next renewal, at its price, with its credits. Until then you keep the plan you paid for and all its credits. Nothing is refunded.
Monthly or yearly
Press Switch to on any plan to open Stripe's billing page, where every plan is offered monthly and yearly. Yearly costs 20% less than monthly.
- Monthly to yearly starts the year today: the year is charged now and a new month of plan credits arrives.
- Yearly to monthly starts at the end of the year you paid for.
To move up to a bigger plan, use Move up in Plan and billing rather than Stripe's page. On Stripe's page a bigger plan is charged, and its credits arrive, only at your next renewal; Move up can still start it today after that.
Each step shows on your Usage statement. What Pro and Ultra add, such as priority in our queue and batch automation, comes with the plan: see Plans compared.
One plan at a time
Checkout won't start a second plan beside the one you have. It says you're already on a plan and to change it from Settings, where a bigger plan starts today. On Pricing, your plan reads Your plan and leads to Plan and billing.
Plans set up by our team
- A plan we gave you, marked "on us" in Plan and billing, is changed by asking us.
- A Business plan is changed by talking to us: see Business: teams, seats and invoices.
If something is in the way
- Purchases are paused. Plan and billing says so and offers no switch until they reopen. Your plan keeps working.
- A payment failed. Update your card first: see A payment failed.
- Your plan is set to end. Turn renewal back on from Cards, invoices and cancelling in Plan and billing, then move up.
- A payment is disputed with your bank. Purchases pause, moving up included, until the bank decides: see Disputing a payment with your bank.
To stop your plan instead, see Cancel your plan or delete your account.
