A new account is given 10 starter credits, once, to try things before paying. They last 2 days from the moment they arrive.
When they arrive
They arrive when your email address is confirmed:
- Signed up with Google: straight away.
- Signed up with an email and password: when you open the activation link we email you. A password-reset link confirms the address too.
You'll see them in your balance at the top of the page. If you joined through a sign-up link that gives credits, those arrive beside them: see Credits from a referral or a credit link.
What they pay for
Starter credits pay for any run, at the price on its button. As a guide, a Nano Banana picture is 2 credits, and clips start from 2 credits: see What a run costs, and where you see the price.
When they're gone, choose a plan or buy credits in any amount: see Plans compared and Buy credits without a plan.
When they end
- Credits that end soonest are spent first, so your starter credits are used before credits you buy.
- Plan and billing lists what's left of them as complimentary credits, with the day they end.
- Whatever is left when they end expires.
- A run they paid for that fails gives them back, and they keep their end date.
On your Usage statement they arrive as Starter credits, and anything left over leaves as Starter credits expired.
Who gets them
Every account gets them once: signing in again, or confirming the address a second way, adds nothing. They're once per mailbox, too: another address that delivers to the same inbox, such as name+1@gmail.com or n.a.m.e@gmail.com beside name@gmail.com, doesn't get them again. An address that deleted an account recently doesn't get them again on a new one.
If your address is confirmed and they never arrived, open a ticket.
